Seeking participants for speech study at University of Missouri
Are you interested in participating in a speech experiment at the University of Missouri? Are you within the age range of 18-89 years with normal or corrected to normal vision, normal hearing and no history of stroke, brain injury or neurological disease? About the study: The Neural Substrates of Speech and Timing Lab is seeking participants for research studies consisting of 1 visit lasting 1-2 hours, to be scheduled at your convenience. The study consists of a task where you will produce words or sentences. We will make audio recordings of your speech during these speech tasks. We will also ask you to wear headphones during the speaking task, so we can play back your voice or other sounds. You may also complete some neuropsychological assessments of cognition, attention, speech, and movement. You will be paid $15/hour for your participation in the project. These studies take place at Lewis and Clark Halls at the University of Missouri. If you are interested in participating, please visit mizzou.us/speechstudy to fill out a quick eligibility screening. Seeking young adults for a paid research study looking at brain and mental processes during learning of new visual cues for liquid rewards. Individuals age 21-25 who drank alcohol at least twice in the past month may be eligible. The study involves 3 lab visits to MU Campus (Marx Building) within 1 week and 5 short (<15 min) electronic (online) surveys across 12 months. During the lab visits, we will record your EEG (brain waves) while you view shapes on a computer screen and get small sips of water and alcohol. You will consume about 1 standard drink total at each lab visit. You can earn up to $350 total for completing the entire study. Sedentary adults 45-70 years old needed for metabolism study
Are you generally healthy, between the ages of 45-75, without major dietary restrictions/allergies, not taking cholesterol/statin medication, and exercise less than 2.5 hours per week? If so, you may be eligible for a meal-based metabolism study looking at the impact of certain types and amounts of protein on build-up (plaque) in blood vessels. This study involves a screening visit (~4 hours) and 4 overnight meal test visits with blood sampling and endothelial cell collection (~20 hours each; one with body imaging DEXA scan). Participation in this study involves two parts: 1) an online baseline session; and 2) two weeks of responding to prompts on a smart phone. The Department of Medicine-Endocrinology and Metabolism is recruiting hypertensive (systolic blood pressure =130 mmHg and/or diastolic blood pressure = 80 mmHg) or obese (BMI=30) men and women between the ages of 18-35 for a research study exploring arterial stiffness markers in individuals with obesity or hypertension. This study involves a one-hour visiting time for a single clinic visit in the University Hospital’s Clinical & Translational Science Unit. The study visit will include a blood draw and monitoring via sensors. Participants will be compensated $50 gift card for their time and effort.
