For the second installment of the Kinder Institute’s Spring 2026 lecture series exploring the United States’ 250th anniversary through a global lens, Erika Pani, Research Professor at El Colegio de México’s Centro de Estudios Históricos, will situate the nation’s historical trajectory in the context of its two-centuries-long relationship with Mexico. The event will be held on Friday, February 13, in the ballroom at the Tiger Hotel, with Prof. Pani’s talk starting at 5 p.m. and a reception to follow. Men and Women Needed for a 12-week Study Examining Effects of Grape Consumption on Immune and Gut Health.
Are you 30-45 years old, have a weight status classified as obese (BMI: 30-45 kg/m2) and not currently consuming a healthy diet? If so, you might be eligible to participate in a study examining the effects of grapes on immune and gut health. This study involves a 1-hr screening visit, four 3-hr and two 1-hr research visits at MU. Main study measurements involve blood, stool and mental well-being tests. Study foods (whole freeze-dried grape powder) provided. Total compensation for the study is $250. Healthy overweight adults needed for metabolism study
Recruiting men and women for a study examining how having a first-degree (mom/dad/sibling) family member with type 2 diabetes impacts metabolism. Also recruiting those without a first-degree relative with type 2 diabetes. This study has a screening visit (~2 hr), two metabolic testing visits (~20 and 24 hr) and daily self-administered growth hormone injections for 6-8 days. Compensation up to $715 provided. Are you interested in participating in a speech experiment at the University of Missouri? Are you within the age range of 18-89 years with normal or corrected to normal vision, normal hearing and no history of stroke, brain injury or neurological disease? About the study: The Neural Substrates of Speech and Timing (NeSST) Lab is seeking participants for research studies consisting of 1-2 visits lasting 1-3 hours each, to be scheduled at your convenience. The study consists of a task where you will produce words or sentences. We will make audio recordings of your speech during these speech tasks. We will also ask you to wear headphones during the speaking task, so we can play back your voice or other sounds. You may also complete some neuropsychological assessments of cognition, attention, speech and movement. You will be paid $15/hour for your participation in the project. These studies take place at Lewis and Clark Halls at the University of Missouri. If you are interested in participating, please fill out our speech study eligibility form. The 2026 Visual Art and Design Showcase will culminate in a gallery exhibition at the Columbia Art League (April 14-24) and film screening at Ragtag Cinema (April 14). Projects will be selected in the categories of video, photography, art, architectural studies, apparel design, theatre, strategic communication and graphic design, and an open category that can include floral design, 3D printing, projection art and more! AI at the Nexus: Reimagining Health in Rapidly Changing World
Szczepan Baran, a veterinarian-scientist and former head of emerging technologies at Novartis, played a key role in shaping the NIH’s $486 million investment in next-generation research methods. He will present the 2026 Four Deans Lecture' at noon Wednesday, March 11, in Memorial Union. Register by March 4 for a complimentary lunch. Following the lecture, Dr. Baran will lead an interactive workshop, “Designing High Impact Digital and AI Projects Across the Academic Health Center: From Idea to Testable Prototype.” Participants may register for one or both events.

We are examining how flu or COVID-19 influences our body’s immune responses against the virus and how the virus spreads. For more information, participants can visit our website. We will ask you to provide a nasal swab or breath particle collection and optional blood sample within 5 days of illness, and then an optional blood sample about 7 days, 1-, 3- and 6- months afterwards at the University Hospital. MU Extension invites couples to take part in the Strong Couples Project (SCP). SCP combines the online evidence-based ePREP relationship education program with 5 coaching sessions. The coach will help support the couple in practicing communication and conflict resolution skills taught in the program. The SPC is provided in partnership with the University of Illinois Extension. All couples who are 18 years or older and married, engaged or living together for at least six months are welcome to enroll. There is no cost to participate. Seeking Minority Parents for a Research Study on Parent-Child Convos about 9/11
With the 25th anniversary of 9/11 approaching, Family Communication researchers are interested in how parents talk (and don’t talk) with their children about the events of that historic day. We’re currently recruiting racial, ethnic and religious minority parents as part of a larger study surveying a broad population of parents. To participate you must be (1) at least 35 years old, (2) were living in the U.S. during 9/11/2001 and (3) have at least one child who is 10-35 years old. Participation includes completing an (~1 hour) interview in person or by Zoom. Those who are interested should complete a 5-minute survey.
